My best guess is an old shaft east of Wheal Peevor / west part of great northdowns mine...I expect the access to the shaft has now been restricted ...It was on TV tonight and only had a bit of wire mesh over it.
Is it safe to come out of the bunker yet?

Interesting.

Water is a long way down up there. 100m+

Most of the shafts are vertical to adit level and any workings above adit are also vertical. I've been up there and looked at pretty much everything which is open and everything, apart from the incline shaft near the short stack is 300ft deep. My money is it being one of the two shafts adjoining the golf place which I haven't looked at.

There is a shallow(er) adit which comes in from Peevor but is blocked shortly GND side of the road. Perhaps this shaft drops onto the other side of the collapse. If it was the case, it would be interesting to look at, as it would appear to be on a different set of workings than the main deep stuff.

Looked like it was in the hedge in a field near the Clubhouse. Underneath a large clump of Gorse and heather.
As open shafts are rare, I did wonder if you'd been down it.
I guess with all the publicity, it will be covered over more securely...
Might be on the local BBC iplayer or eqv. site...(haven't checked)

I'd be interested in having a go at it. For sure.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
