Mind the holes in there and the bits of false floor. Even thought it's a bit of a tourist/urbex mine, there are some hideously risky bits. Deep holes with slidey stuff into them.

The path down is pretty dodgy as well.

Well worth a look though as its quite spectacular, just standing on the beach at the bottom looking up is quite intimidating.

We managed to exit on to a ledge part way through the trip and have our lunch there, was beautiful.

Be careful around contact shaft as the flooring is lethal and it wouldnt take much to fall down it.

Watched a video of the SCMC Trip in the 1990's to Cligga yesterday, it seemed to be full of collapses that were just passable.
Does anyone know what the situation is today re collapsed areas?
Who owns it? Do people still visit?
I guess Concord used to own the rights or have permission to look for minerals here from the mineral rights owner..?
Apologies for obvious questions!
Is it safe to come out of the bunker yet?

Duchy own the mineral rights and as such you are trespassing if you enter. However....at present an unnamed mining company have a licence to prospect for minerals, but nothing has materialised in the way of action. So, with adits being open
enough to allow free and unhindered access, ie you are not forcing an entry or ignoring warning sign (there aren't any) then I believe any chance of prosecution would indeed be slim.
As for collapses, I think camera angles were to blame for most of that illusion. The mine is good to explore with care, but don't say I told you.

I was in there last year with SCMC, entered at middle level and a bit of a climb down into a stope and out at bottom level.

The traverse to middle off the main cliff path is a bit easier than it looks, otherwise handline down the incline.

My avatar is a poor likeness.

The CSM have been in there more recently, in the red clay 'art gallery' there are multiple 'plaques' with csmand 20xx emblazoned on them.

Thanks Roy & Roy - the video gave an impression of a complex of tunnels with all the cross-cuts, so probably wouldnt go down there unless I was with someone familiar with the mine and underground exploration. Will have a word with my mineral collecting friend to see if his contacts are thinking of a visit anytime.

tw*ts, I was in there recently I was very unimpressed by that.

Cligga isn't a place for the inexperienced despite looking as though it should be. There's a problem on 2 level as you head towards the shaft something has dropped out and left a load of hanging death. There's a drive off to the right a short distance back from this that will allow you to bypass this. As others have already said it's what might not be beneath your feet that you need to be wary of.

I thought that back in the 70s, I'm surprised it hasn't collapsed entirely around the shaft, given the traffic in there and the poor state of much of it.

Mind you, things were different then.. I remember going into the base of that shaft with the hanging timberwork above ( Turnavore's? ) and not being unduly concerned about it...

I went down there with a couple of mates in the 70's.

One of my mates was lowered on a rope - he came up pretty fast after he saw what he was dangling over - panicked so much he dropped his hurricane lamp - apparently he watched it disappear slowly into the depths.

We all left sharpish when he described what we were walking on. Miracle we weren't all killed - the impetuousness of youth.

The place to beware of is 1 level where there are more hazards than you can shake a stick at.
The 'Red clay gallery' is just a bit of fun and as far as graffiti goes, is no problem at all. it does not really detract from the mine environment, or spoil anything. It's certainly a lot friendlier than spray paint :curse: and could be removed very easily. However, it does serve as a record of the people, passing through the mine and in some cases where they are from.
The collapse on 2 level is an ore chute which was 'pulled' / wrecked some years ago by some 'up country' mineral collectors, and has been moving ever since....no sense! 😠
The timber deck at Contact Shaft station on 2 level ought to be avoided at all costs. It is now getting very rotten and it's a long way down to water.
Like all mine exploring wherever you are, keep your eyes open and your mind alert. Think about what you are looking at and the reason for it being like it is. study the rock / geology, stable or unstable? are there any clean looking rocks amongst the mucky ones on the floor? Think before you go stepping on anything, and if you are in doubt then get out.
Simple rules that pay dividends :flowers:
"You Chinese think of everything!"
"But I''m not Chinese!"
"Then you must have forgotten something!"

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
