I was a talking last night to bloke who is indirectly involved in the project at Robinson's and he thinks it's going to be, in his words, an excellent investment and in his words will be bloody good. In other words it will atract the public and at the same time give them an idea of the industrial heritage. A compromise one has to make.

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

From what I've seen, it is industrial heritage itself that has been severely compromised in the name of £££££s

So your suggestions would have been what? Bearing in mind that Wheal Martyn, although a great example, is struggling to exist. In fact I think sometimes 'Industrial Heritage' has to be more accurately defined.

well for one thing i would have made sure the bloody head frame was right or dont they use skip guides anymore,i also know some one involved in the heartless thing his thoughts on it ...its a bloody cock up!

Well..... yeeeess but ..... I'm not sure the average holiday maker would recognise a skip guide (actually not sure I would). I had a presentation on Heartlands a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good in the round.

If the skip guides no longer exist, then they will never know what they are. Why all the pandering to holiday makers anyway? this site is an absolute disgrace, and although I only live half a mile away I shall never go there, it makes me sick every time I pass by. :guns:

the millions they spent on it would have been better used to support local industry and cerate full time well payd jobs not a few part time ice cream sellers :guns:

I think there is quite a bit more to it than that including office space, future housing, cafes, shops, cycle trails, etc. You lot are starting to sound pretty negative. Would you rather it was left as a wasteland?

On the contrary, a unique opportunity has been missed here and that was to present an early twentieth century mine site as it would have been. If East Pool had been included where else in the world would you find three beam engines in their origonal houses of the mine that they worked. At the start of this mess local comments were sought and as usual ignored. I will give this lot about three years or less before it goes bankrupt, this site is disgusting and the beam engine remains more out of pity than anything else, they did not even have the gumption to restore the chimney to its origonal height despite the scaffolding being around the engine house for six weeks longer than it took to build it. :curse:

Just watched the fly through video. The impression I came away with is that the project will remove any real context that Robinsons had, leaving it as an isolated and sanitised curiosity in the midst of some rather sterile "anywhere town" architecture.

The real rub here is that Crofty could have been moth-balled with the pumps still running for a fraction of the price that this place has consumed and will keep on consuming. With the price of tin now at a level where mining could resume we would have men in well paid jobs contributing directly back into the local ecconomy.
Stuey is right the RDA are nothing more than a bloody dictatorship, ****** the lot of them.

Back in 98 when Crofty shut I remember a suit from the RDA on local news stating that mining was not appropriate for Camborne - Redruth. Says it all really
