I thought all the Duchy's mineral rights were known about anyway? - What might be put in the public domain is the earnings they get from these rights, now and in the past.

Is it safe to come out of the bunker yet?

The article seems to imply that FOI requests on environmental issues have previously been blocked.

That is my understanding. Up until now they have considered their status to be exempt from disclosure. This ruling may well have opened the floodgates, so to speak.

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

I have always been midly curious as to:

(a) How much the Duchy directly earns in Cornwall
(b) How much is reinvested in the county
(c) How much is taken out of county.

As to the last I have heard an unsubstantiated figure of £10m per annum being suggested :guns:

This has nothing to do with mining. It is a bunch of rich geriatrics who have come down here to die, trying to prevent a local man landing his oysters on what they claim is THEIR river, namely the Helford.
Messing with the Duchy may seem attractive at first sight, but it could open a can of worms that we will all regret.

A big chunk of the money removed from Cornwall by the Duchy does not get to recirculate in the local economy.

I've forgotten the actual figures off the top of my head, some of the sums involved in moorings were astronomical and parasitic.

I'm all for the Royal Family as they don't actually cost that much, the Duchy are costing some people a big amount of money indeed. I'd rather they got pocket money from the state and kept it at that, rather than attempting to be business people and missing out on the service bit.

It's probably better the Duchy are running it than the lot in county hall, or worse still the SWRDA.

It's costs would double and the whole place would be infested with Midas boxes, growing like bacteria.
