North Cliffs, which is north of the main mining district (Camborne Redruth) had a pretty big cliff fall recently. There are a couple of small workings in the area, for Lead, if I recall correctly.

Now, as amazing as this is, what on earth are these people doing filming something which at the beginning shows no real evidence of moving?

Mineral collectors with some bang?

Dunno, cliffs collapse like that all the time in Cleveland. Just generally - though not always - on a smaller scale.

Likely it started with small pieces not visible on the film and ended up as the big collapse.

As far as I'm aware Stuey the footage was taken by Cornwall Council Soils and Materials Engineer Richard Hocking.
Richard was keeping an eye on a large crack in the cliff when the stunning natural drama unfolded on October 3rd. But of course I could be wrong. πŸ™‚

cliff failures in Cornwall are hardly unknown, and the sequence of events is well known. I'd heard on the grapevine that this one had been under scrutiny for quite some time.

Well if it was they are buried under a few millions tonnes of rocks now. πŸ˜‰

Looks entirely natural to me. Video would have been pretty dull if they left in however long they waited at the front.

they were quite likely filmed over a period of time, to monitor the ongoing development of the crack, this would be quite usual. So it's probably fortuitous that the fall was actually caught on camera, but always a possible outcome of the ongoing procedure.

Well, I'm glad I saw that, as it has led me to become an early adopter of the Wadsworth Constant.

Looking closer, there appears to be some sort of structure (lode/X-course) in the cliff. It still looks dodgy.

There is one of a similar magnitude waiting to happen at Wheal Fox headland at Porthtowan. That's going to make a proper mess when it goes.

In the usual vein of the hysteria which surrounds dangerous stuff, I'm really really surprised they don't go up with some bang and bring it down when all the emmets aren't about.

Anchor points can be a bit dubious on cliff tops, a good strong fence could have some uses....

Probably wouldn't work. I'd bumped into these idiots earlier when they staggered out of the pub.

The path around to Gooden Heane Cove (spelling? ) has come down (just around the corner from that photo). I gather there are some workings there, but they are a boat job now.

a few years ago some mates did the workings behind the airfield (the one with nothing there  ) and got a right ass kicking from the m.o.d
