A friend of mines has asked me to identify a mine for him and I would appreciate some help.
The engine house remains and calciner stack are situated to left of the road that runs from Nancledra past Trink Hill. The remains are about 1/2 mile to the west of Trink Hill.

It's not marked on the map in Ham. Jenks Mines around St. Ives and the index isn't much help as I don't know the name. He gave me GR but I won't post it as I think it's incorrect.

Anyway any ideas would be much appreciated.

Sorted the GR. SW495370

The only one I can think of on the left side of the road apart from Rosewall Hill & Ransome United is Tyringham Conols, but I havn't the vast knowledge that you have

I've often wondered the same thing. Are any holes open?

Pretty sure it is the Wheal Kitty part of Wheal Sisters.
Used to be some big open holes but area was 'landscaped' a few years ago.
poke around long enough and you'll find something..

Just remembered. the Giew mill stack is square , the china clay works one down the road is round , I did some sampling at the china clays works in the 1980s , when I worked down there, I was told that a Clay pipeline ran from there to St Erth , where the old Dairy was !!!, quite a pipeline !!

If it is half mile west of nancledra/Giew then Tyringham Consols is the answer. Spent many happy hours in my youth there.

That is where the calciner would be, or very near it.

This is the Giew mill site, the stack and 2 brunton calciners are about where the "S" is on engine house, This site is probably in my opinion one of the most interesting and best preserved mill sites around, but it is now a "jungle" of brambles and thorn bushes!!!. The mill run by S Furse was one of the most efficient in the world at the time ( early 1920s) , apparently people used to come from all over to visit it !!. I spent a lot of time researching this site in the 1980s , when I worked for a tin exploration company . We had an amazing aerial photo taken of the site in WW2 all the mill layout was visible then, stamp beds, Buddles the whole works, I wish I still had the photo it was about 3 foot square !!! :smartass:
