Cwm Mynach - which mines are there?

Another story raised by the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_west/8059060.stm documents the Woodland Trust who wish to purchase land at Cwm Mynach http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/support-us/appeals/wales/cwn-mynach/Pages/where.aspx .

The Trust have a location plan at this http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/support-us/appeals/wales/cwn-mynach/PublishingImages/cym-mynach-location.jpg - the area is north of the Mawddach estuary, just to the west of the A470 at the (far) end of the Trawsfynydd straight.

The item of mining historical interest seems to be:

1886 (circa): A manganese mining industry was established. Traces of manganese ore today remain at the front of an incline.

The only mine in the database which seem to be within the forestry itself is Cwm Mynach slate mine http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Cwm-Mynach-Slate-Mine/

Does anyone have any information about other mines in the area? I suspect that a programme of tree-planting may not always pay due consideration to mine / industrial remains, as has been demonstrated many, many times in the past...

There's trials for gold and a few manganese mines.

Just finished a clearance job there.

Gold is where you find it

With regard to manganese people might care to look at my website http://www.hendrecoed.org.uk/Merioneth-Manganese/ . The mines in question are Cwm Mynach, Cae Mab Seifion and (further up the cwm) Diphwys - they are listed in the website index.

There are also remains of gold mining/trials for gold. Jeremy Wilkinson's gazetteer and bibliographical references for all the mines are available on another part of of my website http://www.hendrecoed.org.uk/Wilkinson - probably the easiest way to see the information for all the mines in question is to look for mines within (say) 1km of SH683208.
