Fantastic news, just been talking to the Trevithick society publication guy and he tells me that a book is under preparation as per below. I quote-

A book of previously unpublished photographs taken by this
well-known recorder of Cornish mine sites in the 1920s and
1930s.

As an Ordish fan myself I can't wait for this publication as most of it is material never previously published. This has been done with the permission of the Ordish family and will be out Autumn this year :thumbup: It will be a paperback on quality paper so as to do the photo's justice unlike the Barton books which were done 😞 .... well ... nuff said!!

Any idea what areas in Cornwall these pictures relate to or was it everywhere? thanks

Not specifically but I got the impression it will be county wide.... Can't wait as there will be some pretty historic syuff I'd imagine.

He took some superb photos of the New Consols engines before they were destroyed in the late 1930s

Finally folks its here 🙂 , the book came out yesterday in theory so its not on the web or amazon, it is paperback but there is a limited run of 100 hardbacks available so if you want one of those get in now as I think these will be very collectable and you have the drop on this one, just ring Tormark on 01209-822101 (as I already have ::) )-

The official book blurb is as follows-

H G (Geoffrey) Ordish was born in 1901 and made his first visit to Cornwall as early as 1915. He later visited Cornwall regularly, visiting mine sites, often with his friend the mining historian, A K Hamilton Jenkin. The 200 plus photographs in this collection, H G Ordish: The Early Mining Photographs, were all taken between 1920 and 1933. Most have never been published before – indeed there has not been a book devoted to Geoffrey Ordish’s mining photographs since two rather unsatisfactory paperbacks appeared in the 1960s. Despite this his pictures have always been held in high regard by those with a serious interest in Cornish mining.

The photographs in this book were all taken on a small Kodak ‘Vest Pocket’ camera and cover mine sites across the whole of Cornwall. Some give new insights into well-known mines – there is for example a splendid sequence from Levant – while others are now the sole record of small, forgotten workings. Cornish mining was at a low ebb during this period and so photographs are much less common than those from the years of prosperity. Tony Clarke, who has prepared the photos for publication, has contributed a Preface with his memories of Geoffrey Ordish and notes on his camera and techniques.

H G Ordish: The Early Mining Photographs is a Trevithick Society publication and will be available as a 248 page large format paperback at £16.00 ISBN 978 0 904040 91 3. There will be a limited hardback edition of 100 copies at £25.00 ISBN 978 0 904040 90 6

Brilliant News, I'm looking forward to getting myself a copy.

In other news, I've seen Allen Buckley's "Killifreth" in the CSL which is the latest of interesting reads in his series of very good books, the best of which IMO being "The Great County Adit".

I hope somebody gets their head around re-publishing all of HGO's pictures again.... be nice to see a large format book of those!
