It is now 50 years since industrial archeologists published one of the most important on mining in the Pennines. The book of the above name- no not the 50!, was the work of A. Raistrick and B. Jennings.
At the time it was a dramatic book, since it it showed two maps, of interest to all mine explorers, a diagram of the integrated Nenthead mines set up and also a similar one of the Arkengarthdale/Swaledale mines. It also gave us some ideas about the social background of the miners. It is still worth a read.
On reading it again one question arose in mind what happened to Raistrick's own documents? Many of these relate to the early years of the L.L.C. and so the whereabouts of them would be of interest to many on this site.

also worth looking at collections from the late Arthur Roberts and Harold Beadle - wherever they went to.

(tangentially,) Friends of Killhope also recently inherited a large collection of material from Tony Fretwell, maybe not as scholarly, but plenty of photographs going back at least to mid-1980's

regards, MARK

Mark, I believe a lot of Harold Beadle's stuff went to Durham Record Office. As you probably know his family were involved in Teesdale mining from the 18th century. I'm sure that someone also told me that some of ArthurRoberts' archive is in Durham as well.

You can read the catalogue online for Arthur Roberts archive - at Durham records office.

I have copies of two of the LLCo journals.
