I noticed this in the bio sheet of a newly registered member.

He was issued the share certificate by the chartered accountants Whitmarsh Edgcumbe & Preedy of Plymouth. I have recently discovered the certificate and supporting documentation when looking through his papers. Does Devon Great Consols Mines Ltd still exist??

Just checked the Co House records. They no longer exist. What is more, I have checked the list of dissloved companies, which go back to at least 1990 (maybe further) not listed there either. Nor as a former company name (changed name list).

Try checking the online London Gazette - it reports most company dissolutions, bankruptcies, winding ups, etc.

The certificate may well be collectable. Mike Veissid (spelling?) at Christies would be a useful dealer to approach to see if the certificate is worth placing at auction.

Devon great concols mine was worked in 1965 - 1978 by Earnest Gregory who reworked the dumps and recovered fair bit of copper and a lot of tin but dident do any new cutting below turf . in operation under various names including Devon Great Consols Mines Limited. now long gone.

collectible for sure though and a local sale maybe through Tavistock would get at least return your dads £40 i would say!

Devon Great Conols Ltd survived until 1973 when, with an influx of Canadian finance, they morphed into Redcaves Ltd.

I've now found 3 other share certificates dating from 1968, which brings the number of £1 shares purchased by my late father to 80.

Surely Christies would not be interested in these?
