My "views of South Caradon" website has been closed down by Yahoo as part of their take over of geocities...but I have just opened as a new site at:

http://teammanley.webs.com/SouthCaradon/Index.html

It is smaller than the original site but contains some new material has a new format. Over the next year I will be adding more material and also building a parallel web-site covering Phoenix United Mine. Hope these will be of use to anyone interested in these mines...John

Nice little site, well done. I remember going in to s caradon adit some years ago. Is that still accessible?
Oh and I seem to remember sailing model boats on Donkey pond as well... in fact I seem to remember lots about S Caradon including being violently sick after drinking too much dandelion and burdock and eating too many kit Kats under the railway bridge waiting for the rain to stop..... Ah happy days...

Caradon adit has an almighty steel plate covering the adit hole, this has rusted shut as well as being locked to boot.

Contacting DCUC would be the first port of call for finding out who has the key/access agreements.

Sure it wasn't mild arsenic poisoning? The same thing happened to me as a child in East Cornwall after playing in the deads at Harrowbarrow!

Kind regards

Arsenic poisoning... well there's a thought.
No, it was definitely Dandelion & Burdock poisoning (such a lethal brew) but arsenic poisoning might be handy one to use with the missus after too many Betty Stoggs.
But thanks for the tip Alec.......blimey that was nearly a play on words there....mine..tip..get it..
Sad or what !!

Great pun, Doug.

We clearly played on different mines setts! It was so sandy at Harrowbarrow, and of course nothing grew.... my mother's uncle was a Duchy tenant smallholder in the village, hence my enjoyment of this unique environment. Much later in life, I collected white arsenic crystals from the Wheal Friendship flues at Mary Tavy- but this time was rather more careful. Should I say here that I still have them, albeit safely stowed and marked as such?
