Nellie Kirkham’s field notes contain a vast amount about Jug Hole, especially letters from Doug Nash recounting in great detail Op Mole's early explorations there. Particularly see Box 25 p43 onwards. Scans of the whole collection can be downloaded off the PDMHS website, a marvellous source – the link is:

I am no expert on Jug Hole but I doubt if it would link through to any distant mines because of the obstruction caused by lava flows. This thwarted the ideas of lead miners to link through to it from the Masson Pipes.
I will be offline over the Bank Holiday, as am using library for Internet access.

Can anybody point in the direction of an online retailer of the jugs interpretation pack please? I cannot find time to visit the mining museum or buxton caving supplies. I have funds waiting to transfer or purchase online but can only find the DCA page stating the price with no method to add to basket?

Much appreciated have been trying to obtain a copy for ages now... Any other worthwhile surveys or books similar to the jugs pack that may be worth buying? I tend to spend my time underground in the peak district but do love a trip into wales :)

Really need to visit buxton caving supplies but work is mental atm and underground activities have ceased until i get my steroid injection to put the arthritis to bed for a bit... 29 year old cripple 😞

The DCA site isn't set up for online shopping; they don't sell large volumes of their publications. I'd suggest getting in touch with Jenny Potts (acting DCA secretary) and asking about getting hold of a copy - if you've not already got the Wapping-Cumberland one that's worth getting too.

Thanks, i've been told i can telephone order via the museum at matlock as well 🙂 I haven't got the wapping book but i've been in a number of times, love getting lost in the maze and emerging up into cumberland... usually by accident!
