Just to flag up a snippet in today's Times.
Apparently in this part of Northamptonshire, a specific type of limestone was used to make 'slates'.
The demand for these has resulted in an old mine being cleaned out, and these blocks raised.
Bats have held the project up!
The blocks after extraction are placed in a large fridge to encourage fracturing, after which they can be trimmed into slates.
Anyone else know something about it?

A while ago I exchanged some emails with the fellow in the hope of a visit. It wasn't possible at the time but may be in the future.

Thanks guys, missed the other listings.
No mention of the HSE stuff in the Times which comes complete with pictures.
They say that, the mine will be left open, after extracting the 'slate' so that the bats will have a home!
It would not be the first time that these little critters have helped to prevent a mine's closure, so guys if you find any sleeping, just leave them alone, and also remember they feed prolifically on midges!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
