I have just returned from holiday in Cornwall .I was exploring the cave in the Townroath vugga from the beach , & went up through the waterfall coming out of the adit & the level beyond was wonderful ,I was only able to explore about 300yards up it as the tide was coming in ! There was evidence that other people had been there recently & I wondered how far in the level went ,was it safe to explore further [I was with my son so was more carful thean if I was alone!].I'm no expert just an enthusiastic amateur bred on exploring mines in the pennines & the lakes

from memory the level goes to a squeeze into a stope not a nice place there are better ones to explore but I don't think any mine is safe to explore if you don't know the area

Correct. I put stemples in years ago to climb up into the stope as I was going to start a dig to try to get to water shaft, but the stope has bad air so that was that.

In the Vugga the level coming in at roof height on the right looking in leads to Towanroath Shaft after about 10 metres, nothing else.

The first part of the adit has been described as a natural cave:

Towanroath Vugga, Chapel Porth, St Agnes.

Cutting coal in my spare time.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
