Great pictures, came across these whilst searching for news about clipstone, i remember reading in the local chad that the coucil had stopped fighting for their demolition, but it didnt say why they changed their plans or what they have planned for the land instead.

I am a little bit passionate about this subject and am in the process of creating a campaign for a lottery heritage grant to fund a project to save the headstocks and create a heritage centre to preserve the history of the mining industry, the history of clipstone and the surrounding area and to save a great part of british heritage for future generations.

A small starting step is a campaign/group on facebook, not an ideal start but hopefully will rally some volunteers to help me, i cant do it all myself but i wont give up fighting for them.

If you want to join heres the link:

Alternatively search facebook for 'save clipstone headstocks'

Thanks

Listing does definately not mean safe... the butterley experience has told me that whilst the two historic buildings are OK anything other than G1 can be argued or fought by the developer... so if we are all interested in Clipstone etc we better get motivated.
I'm off today to see whats happening at Butterley then its back to the Council for more talks.
One thing I now understand is that even a single voice can make a diff if you get to the right bods.

J4M35 you are right.... look what happened to the fabulous Ilkeston Gas Works building... G2 for years... demolished and no one even batted an Eye lid... I don't think the council even know... was a superb industrial building, unique architecture.

Stay vigilent and stay in touch with your council if it means owt to you.

Unfortunately the listing status means practically nothing, which is why Annesley is being ripped apart now. Clipstone has some meddling councillor who's trying to make a mark by campaigning for their demolition. Strange, really, when it's one of the few good things left in Clipstone, and about the only thing that gives it an identity.

The winding house has suffered, which is a shame. Even since my visit this time last year plenty has been smashed about. I'd rather it had stayed as tightly locked up as it used to be and I'd never seen inside than have to see the mess that's being made. It wouldn't suprise me if the 'security' are turning a blind eye so that with plenty of damage the whole lot can be de-listed and flattened.

I just hope that when it's gone, the little army of chavvy b'stards turn on the councillor's house.

G2 listing can be more hindrance than help, it often means that buildings are simply neglected and deteriorate further because there are disadvantages but no advantages for the owner

I totally agree that the listing status means nothing, and there are lots of people who have an opinion about the site and are 'hoping for the best' but it requires action and not hopes and dreams.

I also agree that one voice can make an impact, so lots of voices can move mountains, i refuse to accept that they will ever be pulled down - over my dead body!

I am so passionate about this, i am willing to go to council meetings, knock on the councillors doors, chain myself to their desks until they listen, lets have some action before its too late - ill do it alone if i have to - although id rather have support.

Just my two pence worth!

Well said everyone, even if they don't restore it, converting it to something else would be ok, then at least they wouldn't be forgotten, best to restore them as a museum or something though.
