Hi All,

I'm new to the area of Clipstone and trying to get a feel for what people think of the Headstocks. At the moment they are a bit of a rundown mess, however if redeveloped what would people want from the building - shops? flats? pubs? restaurants?

I'm aware of the cost implications and the history, just trying to get an idea of what Clipstone / Edwinstowe / Forest Town want, they represent a bygone era yes but are a firm part of english heritage and could be preserved.

Regards.

Wow thats a debate and a half, first the locals didn't want them, now they might. The owners want em down, but put it to a vote with the locals... Nobody in the mining history or industrial fraternity wants em gone! They are listed GradeII listed structure but there is an open planning application to knock em down still, but that if I'm told correctly has been open since 2004!
Am due a catch up with a local so will see whats happening soon.
Just as an aside these Koepe type headgears are the tallest in Europe and as such are quite unique, they are also one of the earliest examples fitted in UK. The building archicture is also quite unique and worth a look.
EDIT- This link about sums it up-

Thanks for the info, I'm aware of numerous petitions going around wanting to demolish without considering other alternatives and was curious what people thought of redevelopment.
I think I need to take myself to the next parish meeting and see what I can glean.

Best regards.
