I am sure you all know about Clipstone Colliery, well, here are some bits you may not have seen 😉
All photos taken by me over various visits to the winding house and headgear.

Nooo! I don't do 28dl, but I do that kind of stuff. I thought people might like to see the winding gear 🙂

Thnaks for posting these mate. Great to see the winderhouse. I remeber me dad taking me to Bates Colliery winderhouse when it was working, when he worked there and it was awesome to see it running. Those winderman always kept the place pristine as well. Excellent pics

Are they still planning to demolish Clipstone's headgears?

It would be an absolute crime if they did, they are amazing structures.

As far as I know, they want to, but can't. The local newspaper wants to keep them now, which is a start.

They can't despite the locals views that they should be at one point!! Having been listed its not just up to the locals etc... there has to be a consultation process to reverse.... which now seems as J4M35 rightly says to have the support of the local media that they should stay...!!
Thankfully... Though I'm told the fat lady has yet to sing..... 😞

They certainly don't need the work that Annesley needed... I'd hate to see the same fate come down upon Clipstone.

I've been up both Clipstone and Annesley, Annesley was very rotten, yet still easy to repair as it was a small structure, Clipstone is massive, the actual structure itself is fine, it's just the rotten stairs (and lack of safety rails) that is the concern, though I doubt that if they were restored, people would climb them.

Does having a structure listed actually mean anything though? I am thinking of the old engine house at Scremerston Colliery up here in Northumberland. Its a most beautiful building and is listed and yet is falling apart and just ignored. Totally infested by vegetation and extremely unsafe inside, its just been forgotten about completely. I thought having a building listed was meant to offer it some kind of protection. I dont know much about the process but would be interested to know what the deal is with listed buildings and preservation.

Well, the east midlands approach to listing is to "accidentally" demolish it during repair work, open it up so it will "mysteriously" burn down, or let it fall down on it's own. All of which are happening in my area right now.

All three of those points are exactly the process happening at Robinson's Shaft at South Crofty Mine!
