Hi Leea & welcome to AditNow

I'm sure everyone here has a diffferent approach to finding out the history of their local mines & quarries but I find the best way is to first get the time scale of operation & origional names of the locations by using sites such as www.old-maps.co.uk
& then find further info from the search engines or books, not forgetting AditNow's own database at www.aditnow.co.uk/list-of-mines-uk-international/
Hope this is of some help!
