hi im doing my familly tree and have traced my ancestors back to alfreton derbyshire area in 1841 cencus the familly lived in greenhill lane riddings alfreton i have an issac bond born alfreton 26/aprill/ 1803. father abraham bond.issac married mary robinson in alfreton 1830. issac was a coal miner. sadly he died in summercotes colliery on 19/ 2/ 1838. in a mining accident. basicly im trying to find some old records of miners who worked in birchwood pit .summercotes pit.or cotes park colliery. can any body give any advice were to look to try and find records for people who worked at these collierys.thanks tony bond.

hi there i cant help you with the info you want,but check out my photo album,ive got a photo on there of a shaft that opened up from birchwood colliery.i took it when i worked at a concrete plant that operates on the former pit site.just thought you might find it interesting! By the way,its Somercotes,not summercotes,alot of people spell it the wrong way! 😉

It is rare that records listing workforces survive. If they do survive, they are likely to be in the county record office or just possibly the local library. Don't get your hopes up though...
