My Likes:

Looks different, not yet another Scurrion clone
Lens looks like glass so wont scuff and become opaque destroying beam pattern

Main dislike:
Total lack of meaningful information such as burn times, tech info (what emitters?) etc on the website.

He has competition at that price, eg Pulsar etc, but many people will prefer to buy from a UK seller. We need to know more about the lamp and not sales flannel either.

From the site "The headset can be returned for software and hardware upgrades as new technology becomes available."

What, Windows 10 compatibility! Really

Years ago I heard a salesman for a website design company describe a nameserver name as a "filepath", they give themselves away.

Surely "hardware updates" are possible "as new technology becomes available."

Upgraded batteries, emitters etc?

Yes of course, its the "software" bit that amuses me.

I don't know how the lamp works but my guess is a switch mode circuit with digital control by a Programmable Integrated Circuit (PIC). If its analogue he knows nothing about his own product!

The programming sets the mode outputs, nothing more.

I believe that Chris JC built a torch with 32 bit control, that's a massive huge overkill, no disrespect to you Chris.
8 bits has 256 possible combinations!

"Software updates" is suggestive of something as complex as say the ECU in modern car.

Sales types feed on peoples ignorance.

Of course I'm the other extreme. I do know about marketing but just cant be bothered, its only a hobby for me.
I don't know a lot about electronics compared to some on here!

Wasn't there a 'chinese scurion clone' a while back?

such a huge choice of high end caving lamps on the market at the moment. Cant think of a niche market so well catered for! And fair play to the people developing all this kit.
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Looks interesting, might get one just to see what its like.

Website is a little lacking in information.

Battery doesn't look that strong with a small cable coming out. I tend to break them quite quickly.

Always game to try these things though!

Looks great! Battery box looks similar (?) to the later Sten?

Edit: Battery does look a bit "wibbly" on closer inspection...

.... and at the other corner, you've got uber quality in terms of the Scurion. Rolex style (and price)

It made me re-evaluate my position. What is most important, welly or quality? I always referred to Scurions and Stens as "gucci lego" and was made to eat my words with the quality.

.........

The Nora is like a cheap version of the scurion with worse quality light. The chap I knew who had one now uses a scurion.

I struggle a bit with your evaluation of the Rude Nora.
I think all would agree that they are very high quality with minute attention to detail?

Mr Bif who makes them is a fanatic about quality, this comes right across to me, and I would feel a lot more confident dealing with him that anyone who is economical on fact.

They obviously less powerful than the Scurrion because they are low voltage. This had advantages in the past which are now negated by new technology. What else is new.

Maybe I am missing a point somewhere?

Anyway, moving on to something else.

I was talking to a chap at Dinas who told me about an aluminium container that was advertised to hell and double the price of others, and yet it was just an aluminium container and not any different to the others.

My point here is about marketing and selling. Forgetting anything I produce, if I was buying a lamp I would feel more confident dealing with a geek than a salesman.

It's fantastic that there is so much choice nowadays. I think I've only seen a couple of people with the Earthworm lamp. Personally I veer towards the most power I can get. Basically I go underground to see stuff and the brighter my lamp the more I see!

The beauty of my Magnumstar is that you can leave it on full power for long periods, especially when alone. With other people they can flinch a bit when I forget to turn it down - sorry! :flowers:

When it comes loyal customers you certainly take the prize

On thread

The guy who is selling these is free to register on aditnow and answer all our questions about his lamp.
Hell, you cant shut me up about my lamps!

I bet he is reading this thread, so where is he?

What are the burn times for instance, first thing I would want to know if I was going to buy one.

And the weight I noticed, its only about 25 grams or whatever lighter than my big bat cookers. Why?

The price, not really competitive. I mean El Speleo, Pulsar, the Greek one, and my bat roasters all about same price range. Comments?

The thing is, every other website selling lamps offers full information

Lots and lots

I have just visited the Earthworm website and its been updated with modes, burn times etc.

Apparently is not as heavy as originally stated, maybe originally a typo.

I did briefly spot this at H.E. t'other weekend, not bad....but not exceedingly good either, it didn't motivate me enuff to put my hand in my pocket and part with a fistful of Lady Godiva's!

Mr Biff makes exceedingly good lamps, I have 4 sitting about at the moment - 2 of his "budget" Pretzl duo inserts - (my owd "original" Spelios - gets the most abuse), and 2 of his "Pitlamp" conversions - 1 is due to be returned to its owner after a bit of battery fettling, T'other is my "project" lamp - you see Mr Biff is good at the front end, but, nobody is doing the "Back end" (battery box, I have plans for a 4xAA 3dprinted unit - watch this space).

My UberSten died moons ago, and because I'm about as much use as a monkey when it comes to S.M.T. components I'm all "Fingers and thumbs"* to "'Ave at it" and fix the ******, (because I kno daymm well where the short circuit is) plus its just not cost effective to send the bloody thing back to 'Murcica to have it fixed.

Earthworms, "Bubble and Squeak" lamps are not fully Mendeep tested yet, and the Swiss lamps are just WAYYYYY to pricey for me ATM.

So *IF* I were to be investing in a new lamp I'm afraid that I'll be beating a path to your door Roy!

From what I've seen over the past few years your lamps are bloody bulletproof, at least 2 of my mates have bought your lamps and have been blown away by the performance!

*AND failing eyesight!- Christ I HATE approaching the 1/2 way mark!!

PLUS I have the advantage of being able to go to the other end of the Village and pick Mr Biff's braains about stuff if I need to.
