Hi, i am looking for a torch for doing some underwater videos/ pictures in a local mine. I use a surefire 900 lumen torch for general exploring, it has a cree bulb, and is mega bright, but it isn,t waterproof.
I have been looking at the other Cree lights on ebay as they are all really good quality.

How far underwater?

Virtually the entire Fenix range is now waterproof to IPX8 which is effectively 2m+.

IP68 means (the 8 is the relevant number there) suitable for continuous immersion below 1m.

Quote:

The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. Normally, this will mean that the equipment is hermetically sealed.

I think the important bit there is specified by the manufacturer.

Fenixes are fantastic bits of kit. Virtually indestructible. I've seen one hit solid rock after falling over 200'. And it worked and looked as good as new. But they're not sold as dive lights and I'd be really reluctant to trust my life to something underwater that wasn't sold as a dive light. If your lights fail while cave or mine diving you're probably dead.

Get a copy of DIVE from the newsagent and have a look at the adverts for dive lights.

Just my twopenceworth 😉

I'd imaging if you're down as low as 20m, you're already going to own a dive light?!

It can get quite murky at 10m if the water is turbid enough.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
