Some news
The Scorpion TGX is now available, but only 2 in stock.
I was awaiting feedback on the switches fitted as push button switches have given problems in the past with Derbyshire mud.
People have requested custom X_Basics fitted with toggle switches for this reason, I happily supplied them but counsel against these for hard use as I have seen them bent and broken. Hence my support for push buttons. I settled on one that is IP 68 5 metres submersion, stands proud, and is 8 Newtons pressure, as a rider against mud. It seems I am right.
The following is honest comment from "Mark" a Speedwell digger. I dont pay shills, I leave that to others. His X_Basic was paid for normally and the upgraded switch the only favour in return for a honest assessment.
Reads:
"I have now used my upgraded Lynx X_Basic on three further digging trips into speedwell cavern. I made no attempt to avoid mud covering the new switch, and changed the brightness of the lamp at least twenty times on each trip. After repeated muddy fingers pressing the button, the switch did require noticeably more pressure for it to work. With extra pressure the switch worked reliably.
Washing the switch in between trips has restored the switch pressure to new.
I would now recommend this lamp to anyone looking for a reliable personal caving lamp at minimal price. I have not found a better lamp for the price. The closest competition are Fenix’s HL55 and HP12. These are a similar price to the Lynx (when the battery and charger is taken into account) but with only a single 18650 battery."
The Dragon has recently been upgraded to its present form, he bought one for his wife, here goes:
Grace (Dragon EX lamp user):
"The lamp fitted onto my Petzl Elios helmet with just two holes drilled at the front. Mark attached the battery pack with three cable ties (no need to drill holes).
It was easy to change the light levels, the switch was easy to use, even wearing thick neoprene gloves. I am happy with the lighting: with the switch down it is good for ordinary caving - the right amount of light.
High beam was useful for seeing more distant objects. I used the middle and lower switch positions for digging, both were good.
We came upon a small phreatic tube which I (the small one) investigated.
The lamp did not hamper my progress at all, whilst giving me sufficient light to see everything using the down-switch position.
I've only used this lamp on one trip and so far and I cannot fault my Christmas present."
A final comment says most in just a few words
"My initial impression is that I don't see how this lamp could be improved."
AS a final note I cannot include this switch with X_Basics for the price, but an extra £10 would cover it.
