Told you before, send it in!

Anyway. The big reflectors were the same as yours but for photos and videos bare emitters against the glass are much better. Also the spot and wide angle reflectors give a sort of
'perspective' view. Difficult to describe.

I have a super monster under development, max is 9K being 4.5K of beams and 4.5K of floods. Its truly awesome.
Possibly be on sale 2020.

Inevitably Roy I will be overtaken by the march of time. However my lamp has been running for 5 years now, and still has a reasonable margin before it becomes No. 2.... But I welcome that time when it comes as I am sure others achieving the same will find a different path and I will learn from them.

And in another 10 years you will be able to get 11000 lumen hand torches from Lidl for £5.99.

Chris.

Can the person who sent me a helmet complete with Dragon lamp power bank and spare be so kind as to contact me and tell me who they are and what the fault is. I can only see that the batteries needed charging.

Anyone sending in an RMA etc should please stick some kind of note in hopefully with sale number and name, and a description of the fault. My Buddhism and martial arts skills does not give me psychic powers.

Just for the fun of it, I have decided to make my friends on aditnow, insiders to what is cooking in the lab.

What I have is the next generation of super bat cooker.

Anyone who was on one of my trips at NAMHO 2019 will have seen the 'prototype' lamp i was using.

It s a 16V sealed rechargeable based on the Scorpion design.

The power of the beams has been increased since NAMHO.

A few features:

300 lumens for 27 hours then a slow death of up to 3 hours, 160 lumens for 2 days, full power now 9125 lumens.

Beams max at over 4500 lumens, floods at 4600 lumens.

4 cell power bank, sealed rechargeable, charges from a variety of chargers (19V laptop, Laptop in car, 16.8V Li ion etc), flashing red charge indicator, weight 360 grams. (Scurion 4 cell aluminium dive pack is over 300)

Innovative eye level status monitor, flashing red lamp overheat alarm and blue battery level indicator mounted on the base of the lamp.

Transport lock, toggle switch with split pin prevents switch moving inadvertently to 'lamp' position.

Have you managed to isolate / cure that high pitched whistling noise?

Yes. I have dumped the piezo in favour of a flashing red LED.
What is interesting is that I had to reset the trimmer potentiometer because the LED was flashing far to early. I was in the belief that I had set the alarm to 65C because I could not hear the piezo as it was coming in at a pitch above my hearing level. Wrong
Its working perfectly now and is part of the eye level display on the base of the lamp. This feature is probably a first in lamp design.

It was and still is an LM 393 output so if any geeks have useful comment I will be interested.

I have the latest X16 mentioned above ready to resume testing.

🔗119189[linkphoto]119189[/linkphoto][/link]

Status bar is flashing red is overheat alert, starts at 65C. Plenty of time to finish what you are doing and turn down the lamp. Yellow is low battery, floods will disconnect in 5 seconds if in use. Beams do a slow death so irrelevant.

If the cells recover and the yellow LED goes out, floods come back on line. But recommend low settings.

Probably be on sale next year.

A bit more on the X16

I have redesigned the power pack from the black aluminium seen at NAMHO. I have used a new product from RS Components, the RS Pro general purpose waterproof box. Very impressive the lid holds a deeply recessed seal. They are described as IP 67 but I have tested at 8 feet overnight, so I am describing it as IP 68 2.5 metres.

Big advantage is the ease of access to the internal components.

I have changed the electronics as well. Switching the transport lock to "Lamp" gives a blue LED same as the lamps power level indicator, flashing red is "On charge", the green is now "Charge Complete". A bit more user friendly.

Peter is very kind to do this.

It would be nice for someone to do a honest review of say my current top lamp, the Scorpion X 12, 'warts and all'?

Lend me one for a few weeks Roy and I will happily do an unbiased review.

I am now using the final version of the Scorpion X16 for general exploration, but a Dragon for working. The X16 is total, trust me.

I still have my own Lynx X12, although used quite a bit its in as new condition, but doing nothing. I am therefore offering it for sale, on here before I put it on the website.
I am asking £245 for it with a 3 2070 cell battery pack. Its plastic cased and seen more use than the lamp because I am using it with my own Scorpion X12. I can offer the lynx with a new 3 X 2070 aluminium cased power pack for £275. Either option will carry my sound 12 months guarantee.

The Lynx has recently had new floodlight emitters as I forgot they were on when taking photos and fried them. If this concerns a prospective purchase I can take one out leaving two. I have done this on other lamps and although it reduces the flood output by a third its a permanent fix.

The Lynx X12 is a nice lamp, some may not like the square shape of the Scorpion, and the new X16 will probably be £395 as well as there is a lot in it.

The X12 above has been sold.

The X16 Scorpion latest is that lamp is fabulous but the power bank is a bit on the bulky side, so I have redesigned it with a flat aluminium lid, and lost a bit of weight in so doing.

Its now flush with the cell pack

I am thinking of doing a low end version of the Scorpion, basically same inside as the Lynx basic but in the scorpion GoPro platform. I can do this for less than £150, it would use the 2 cell detachable battery pack. Scorpion is much stronger and better lamp. I would try to get it down to £125, I want to compete with the cheap headtorch market. With these they generally don't include the cells.

I have been selling quite a few of the Lynx basics which proves a demand for inexpensive, reliable, value for money lighting.

Thinking about things, I am attracted to the principle of supplying low cost lighting that can compete with the often inadequate headtorches which seem to account for a large share of the market.
The idea of a Scorpion, stripped to bare essentials, thus saving both cost and weight, has appeared an attractive proposition. After a bit of playing around, I have come up with the Scorpion X.

This design is similar to the TGX, same internal electronics but without the blue indicator strip, and the lock down, unnecessary due to it using a detachable battery.
The single button releases space on the rear so I am able to fit more rear heatsinking, where its most needed. This obviates the need for the side heatsinks. Also the laminated glass in favour of ordinary toughened.

The resulting lamp weighs in at a modest 155 grams including the cable.

Vital specs are standard mode 200 lumens for 14 hours then diminishing for up to 20 hours, a middle mode, and a max of 1800 lumens, basically same as the TGX.

Price is a modest £125.

This is £25 more than the Lynx Basic 2 but has advantage of higher waterprooof integrity of IP68 3 metres (subject to taping over the cable plug), GoPro mounting, and a much stronger lamp.

🔗119985[linkphoto]119985[/linkphoto][/link]

I have one for sale, will see how it goes and if it sells quickly, will produce more.

I think at £125 with 2 cell power pack and charger etc its a lot of lamp for the money, the headtorches dont usually include the batteries, so they not as cheap as they appear.

Does that lamp have a Gopro type connection ? If I can figure out how to get a Gopro mount on my old Petzl Explorer I may buy one.

Yes, all the Scorpions are GoPro and supplied with a GoPro helmet bracket. The more expensive come with an accessory kit as well, tripod mount, extension bar for Hero etc.
