QUOTE.........

I once bought some military spec Duracells with red and not copper coloured tops. They out-shone the civvy street version by about 30%. Keep your eyes skinned at Radio club rallies.

Yep used these a lot in the past.... if you see them for
sale snap up up quick just make sure they are in date..

If you see them at cornwall crac rally .....leave them alone.... as they'll have been bought sold bought sold etc
for the last 5+ years ... just like most of the other sh1t
you find there...............

just kidding........................10 years.......

YO! the last lot I bought was from CRAC in a plain white cardboard box about 5 years ago. I still have four left and they can still kick the needle on the AVO over 1.5V!
Wish I could could find a friendly quartermaster

Swmbo kindly washed my work clothes the other day but left my £10 tesco cree torch in one of the pockets. and yes you've guessed it, it works. two hand a half hours on a boil wash and out it came molten battries an all, after scraping away as much as i could of the old ones i took it apart and cleaned it popped new lit ion batteries in and after a slight glow for a few seconds on it came full blast, gutted i didnt buy more now 😉

Why are they cheaper in Cornwall?
My local Camborne branch (T. Extra), are flogging them at under £8... well,£7.85 and the large 'D' cell one at £17.00 instead of £18.00 can't remember the price of the 'C' cell one, but that too was reduced.

Keep looking. I managed to pick up a 'D' cell one for half price in the 50% sale just before crimbo
Haven't seen any since mind! 😢

Roy - it might be saving because of the 15% VAT rate.

I have just bought two more today - an AA and a C, and I have two C ones already (minus front lens caps, that I've lost).

Excellent torches, and good for lighting photos (which is why I have so many). I have submerged mine with the front caps off and the bulb exposed, caked them in sewage, orange gunge and snow but they still work!!

I have 2 of the c cell torches and the photo's i take with them have turnrd out really well. I haven't posted them yet must get round to it! what i like about the tesco torches is that the colours are really true to life! they don't fool the camera WB and I think they come out looking great! I don't even need to alter the colour temp when shooting in RAW.

I noticed Caving Gear.co.uk sell a 3W Cree Headlamp for £19.99. Is it any good and therefore worth buying? My 21LED headlamp is not as good as I'd hoped it would be underground, the range of beam is a bit short.

Hey Guys.
Sorry for jumping on your thread but just noticed your Tesco Cree torch msg's.
I'm a keen mountain biker and this torch is getting some excellent reviews.. but not for just being left as it is 😉
The trend at the moment is to do a bit of modding to enable it to be worn as helmet mounted.
The long and the short of it is to detach the head and butcher the barrel to about an inch or less long and drill a small hole in the barrel. Solder some wiring into the head of the torch for the power and thread the wires through the hole which you will have now fitted a waterproof gromet too. Re-attach the barrel. Alternatively attach the barrel first and solder the wiring but you limit your room for manouver. Then reseal the open end of the barrel with some rubber end caps from the likes of Maplins. You basicaly then need to fabricate some sort of waterproof battery pack and switch unit which can be kept in your jacket pocket or backpack. With a bit of inventiveness you can re-attach the switch unit to the rear of the barrel but it will be the sawn end where you butchered it so there will be no threads. This switch adds weight to the whole thing if worn on the head so the idea is to encorporate it into the battery pack somehow.
I'm on my second prototype now of a twin lamp version and it works a treat!!
One thing i will say though is, when you buy the c-cell torches check the led's. If you look directly into them(before you buy them and switched off obviously!) there are two different types of led. I dont think Tesco realise this. One led is clear and produces more of a spot beam and there is also a yellowie coloured one which produces more of a flood beam.. Together side by side they produce tonnes of the bright stuff!!!
The led's can be safely run upto 3.7 vaults-ish so pushing 3.6 valults(3x1.2) gives out even more light from the led!
I wear a twin lamp conversion on my helmet and have just ditched my Cateye Tripleshot bar mounted lights for a new twin, bar mounted tesco mod!!
Sorry if any of the above is repeated but just thought it would be something for you to think about..
If you want any pics of the mod in progress let me know.

Michael..

I've bought a few of these with the intention of doing something very similar to this! Could you post a pic up mate? I was intending to set 2 of the lights in a potting-compound with a sheet-aluminium shell... got all the stuff to do it, just need to get round to it!

For sure, torch mods are always good to see, and I'm sure could be adapted for helmet use? (I've got a Sten attachment on my bike helmet ;)) If you need to upload any photos you can use your personal album (see under 'My AditNow' on the main navigation menu).

Id quite like to see pics of the mod.
Ive had one of these torches for about a year but found the switch a bit iffy.
I dropped it the other day and the switch wont stay switched on so Its time for a bit of butchery.
I was looking at the possibilities of fitting it into an oldham headset but certainly interested in all other options.

I agree the switches are rubbish... one of mine failed when I double-clicked it quickly!

At the top of this thread there is a button that says [New Topic] click on that and it will start a new topic within the lighting area of the forum.

There are instructions at the bottom of each of your photos on how to add them to a thread.

I bought one of these excellent torhes earlier in the year at Tesco in Worthing. They were in a cardboard box on the shelf and I was amused to see scrawled on the box in a rounded hand 'As recommended by Roy Fellows'

I've got 3 and they are pretty good. They do have the alarming habit of suddenly not working underground then recovering as soon as you're back in daylight though ::) I think as someone has said this is more to do with the switch than the lamp.

I use mine for strapping to my spare "guest" helmets.
