Tesco's is selling 3W Cree torches in small & large sizes if anyone's interested! Bought one today, quality seems good!

Yes my T1 is an awesome bit of kit. Only trouble is the lithium batteries don't have much life.

Yes, the Fenix is a better light. Recently tried using it for 'painting' a shot, in comparison with the Fenix, needless to say it was the results from the latter that were uploaded.

Having said that, it's still impressive for the price, battery life is OK and it uses AA's (or C cells for the larger model). Hence a good bit of back up kit. (Even if it is Tesco, sorry Vanoord).

The rate I'm loosing Fenixes I think I might impose a limit of £1.99 on my next torch purchase ;)

Seriously though this Tesco lamp looks good value, although I take Vanoord's and Wyn's point that it doesn't compete with the Fenix for light output. It's not all about the emiter, electronics and optics play a big part as well. But for a budget torch it looks good.

And at least the Tesco lamp isn't claiming to be the brightest and manliest on the market 😉

I bought one of these 'ere torches a few months ago. For the money they are very good. The D cell version has P4 LED in it btw.

mind you at that price i could buy an old fiat panda and drive it down the mine on high beam,i still like my b&q led torch as it has a built in swivel head and tripod legs and the 9 batteries it takes last for yonks.but i am in the market for a very cheap very bright led that i can store in my helmet lining.

if its a hole explore it...

:lol: fantastic image, you could cut the roof to get it through low passages.

Mind you, the Colonel cannot have too much light, and if your Panda-light outperforms his WiseLED he'll have to outgun you 😉

I'm trying a 12 LED model I bought in Lidl for £5.99. Aluminium Body - bit of a Maglite clone and has a standard halogen bulb in the centre. Claims to be waterproof - a claim which so far has held up.

So far seems to be OK.

A long time ago, when I was younger (!) I built my underground lighting torch from a 40W car spot lamp and a 12v motor cycle battery which was then encased in foam inside a snap-fit lidded plastic box, reinforced round with metal straps and a wooden baseplate. Not for nothing was I known as the North Wales Power Co's mobile lighting plant! Mind you, it was noticeable that while everyone wanted to borrow it while we were underground, for inspecting chambers and looking down shafts, or along tunnels, there were not so many volunteers to carry it for long....
Here is a volunteer using it in Maenofferen in 1981 - the photo was taken with flash, so you don't see the lamp effect.

bought the big led lamp from tescos today it says it has a 4 watt ssc p4 led in it and it gives a nice very bright beam out,ill try it out when it goes dark...20 quid plus batteries.
its waterproof and you can drop it (if you want to) beam can be focused or dispersed,its a bit heavy but looks well made.

if its a hole explore it...

Forget the Fiat Panda....

This photo was taken with the front end of my landrover jammed in the top of the Brandy Bottle decline, and the big halogen spotlights turned on... about 1980 before it collapsed - although I've not beenup there since..

Back to the Tesco torches. Any ideas who is manufacturing them for Tesco?
Had a look at their headlight today, seems to kick out a reasonable light. The batteries go into the actual unit behind the LED's and there is a rubber gasket that should offer protection against water.
I cant find a use for it though! :lol:

acording to the packaging of the tesco lamp it is made in china for tescos stores ltd,ive took it to bits and theres no clue to manufacturer on the lamp either.

if its a hole explore it...
