While looking for Jerry M and trying to see if there are any of the ex-Dinorwig engines left which haven't had a cab added, I came across this: http://bala-lake-railway.fotopic.net/p25380960.html

According to the caption:

"Dryw Bach" Kerr Stuart 3114, rebuilt at Bala Lake Railway 1980-1982, boiler condemmed 1984 and went to Gloddfa Ganol on static display, current status unknown

Does anyone know if it's still there?

When McAlpines bought the Ffestiniog Slate Group (at 03;00 hours) they closed Gloddfa Ganol at 08:00 the same day. The Narrow gauge railway collection that was housed there (still mostly owned by Will Roberts at that time) was sold by sealed bid auction a few months later. This included KS3114. I believe that went to Vale Of Rheidol Railway for display, along with several other items including Penrhyn Slate Quarry DeW "Kathleen.

That locomotive has been rebuilt to original and working condition by the Phyllis Rampton Narrow Gauge Trust, a Trust which supports the Vale of Rheidol Railway although most of its collection is in Surrey and is unlikely to see service on the VOR as the have a strict policy of only running locomotives/stock that originally ran on the line.

There were plans for a museum of narrow gauge items in Aberystwyth although nothing seems to have come of it.

Dryw Bach must be a name given by the Bala Lake Railway as it was built for the Ministry of Munitions and later passed into the contracting industry.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
