I am pleased to be able to say that recent work in there is now completed.
The left branch passes through Childs Shaft where a collapse was dug by Simon Hughes in the 1970's who fitted an oil drum for continued access. This had corroded over recent years as well as material coming in. There was also a tight crawl beyond under a loose roof. This has now been opened up and the bad roof reinforced with concrete. The corroded two thirds of the oil drum has been cut out and falling material on the left held back with steelwork. It appeared a simple job, but was actually a difficult task working in cramped conditions.
Working inbye of the drum was not as bad once the place started to open up. Well its done now and will be there for long after I am gone.
Nice abseil pitch down Western Engine Shaft stopes beyond. Will be going down shortly and getting some pictures.
Anyway, here is the competed job.
