Hi.

As a new member I wonder if anyone is interested in my local history and mining site. There is a pdf on Local Derbyshire collieries free to download and enjoy.

(A lot of content has been removed to be updated and replaced later).

Hi

Although not my area, by coincidence I was looking around your site the other day. Quite impressive, thanks.

I can't speak for anyone else but the site looks great to me. Quite a body of work and it looks like a labour of love. If you want to make the link to your site 'clickable' you click the 'edit' button onyour original post. It will open the message you typed it. If you select and cut the url then click the 'url' tag at the top of the box. Paste your url back in and the click the 'url' tag again. Once you click 'update' you should have a link to your site. 🙂 Alternatively I'm sure a moderator will do it for you if you wish.

Oh and welcome to AditNow. We're a friendly bunch. Hope you like it here.

Most enjoyable - I've saved the PDF to read at leisure!
Nice to see the pics of Markham, I still miss it when driving that bit of the M1 😞
We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......

This borders on a subject I've been mulling over for a couple of days. I've been looking at the Nothern Mine Research Society website http://www.nmrs.co.uk/mainframeset.htm . (Not sure why it's not one of our links) and it contains some very interesting info. For example it has a DB of the Smelt Mills of Lancashire, Yorkshire, North Pennine and the Lake District with info. and GRs. Obviously one can't just copy the work of others so it effectively stops entering Smelt Mills for these areas. Unless I'm missing something.

I do not have a problem with anyone sharing my research so long as credit is given to the people who have donated their photographs and research to me to include on my site. Indeed many if not all would thank you for including it.

So long as nobody decides to use it for legal purposes of subsidence etc (See disclaimer on grid refs).

I would put all the sites on the lists of coal mines but do not have the time so good luck to anyone who wants to.

One of my pet hates is the number of documents out there which are never allowed to see light of day and are closely coveted and amatures such as myself never get to see them.
There should be more in the public domain not hidden and then thrown away when the owner passes on.

Best Wishes.

Neil. (Just got off the soap box). 😉 😉

I smiled when I read this as it reminded me of one of the NMRS publication 1982 Keating, J. Merstham Firestone Mines British Mining No.19 pp.58-90 which they published in total innocence of the fact that this was a direct and blatant plagiarism of EXACTLY the same text as Croydon Caving Club's publication of the same title, dated 1976(ish)! The only changes I spotted were that all the mine surveys were no longer attributed to Croydon CC but to the "Mines Survey Unit" or some similar name. I don't hold NMRS responsible for this - how would they have known? Sorry - back to topic please. 🙂

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
