Hi all.

Just for a bit of daft to relieve a bit of boredom.

What’s the strangest/most unique/most surprising thing you’ve found underground?

Well there were the two inflatable dolls in Oakwood Mill Deep mine. Rumour has it that that address of the owner was still legible on the wrapping at one time.
We did spend some time puzzling out how the shopping trolley got into Devil's Mine as it was larger that the entrance.

Rusted and ropey, Dog eared old copy
Vintage and classic or just plain Jurassic
All words to describe me.

One of “those” blow-up dolls?

Did the trolley serve a purpose, or was it just dumped?

I think for me, the most surprising thing I’ve seen underground was an otter. The eyes reflecting gave all of the party a bit of a fright!

Not a mine or so much strange as unusually tasty, a cup of tea just after we left Hydrophobia Passage in Sleets Gill cave, the bloke who brewed it was was waiting for his mates to return, not that we'd seen them and Hydrophobia wasn't the quickest place to get through.

I have had the otter, and its a bit unnerving when he is swimming in the water you are wading up to your waist!

An otter while on an inspection visit up Yatestoop Sough; the damn thing swam between my legs and gave me one hell of a shock, then I thought about how sharp their teeth are and how close those teeth were to my nadgers...

Otters appear far more common than I first thought.

A lot of stuff appears to just get dumped in Smallcleugh. ??????

I found an almost complete skeleton of a cow once. That was in a cave though. The unfortunate animal had obviously fallen in. It wasn’t pleasant...

The Tunnel Boring Machine in Santon Dragonby ironstone mine at Scunthorpe must certainly rate as the biggest mining artefact I have ever seen u/g, particularly as you have do quite a detour to see where the cutting face is protruding into existing mine passage.

In contrast the scary doll in Fron goch (Wemyss drainage level).
I swear her eyes follow you around the chamber. Equally weird is the large number of half empty bitter lemon bottles, where no miner has gone before.

Found in the 70s in an U/G storm drain, about 12 inches nose to tail.
