Were the rivets for Protector Type 6's actually rivet shaped ? ie. a preformed "mushroom" at one end and the other end crimped/blatted upon issuing from the Lamp Room, or was plain lead (?) wire used and both ends crimped upon issuing ?

Has anyone a pic of a new "rivet" ?

Just curious.....
Thanks.

I would guess it would depend on the colliery even if there was an 'official' Protector lamp headed rivet.

Thanks Morlock. I was just curious to see what one looked like. It's possible that a colliery just bought lead wire of the right diameter, chopped to the right length (plus a bit), and crimped both ends. Just guessing...

The rivets had a head. Ok, many locks were of the horizontal style and maybe wire could be used on these but it would have been a pain to try to keep wire in place on a vertical lock.
There's also the fact that the clenching pliers would need to be able to open quite a bit further.
