Orders... My daughter (teacher) has a class theme coming up that needs icicle photos. I recall some impressive images here somewhere which would add a local(ish) slant. Without saying, Ill need to ask the contributor for permission, but, could anyone kindly point me to a mine/quarry to start with.

Thanks

Check out the CRTT novelty inflatable trip from a couple of years back. We had it at about -5c when we got up to Croesor....total white out! Seem to recall some icy photos!

OKayyy!... Pretty sure that one of Pungu wouldn't suit a 5-7yo lesson plan. So I won't be passing that one on, thanks! Fits into a similar category as Simon and the plane on that cliff.... The first time I saw that one it gave me nightmares for weeks! :surrender:

Thanks for the immediate, if not all measured reply's 😮 I'll pass (most of them) forward!

If there are any more out there to come, thanks. 'll be in touch for permissions.

It's not in Wales and it's not underground, but this one is at least suitable for KS1 ;)

On one visit to Cwmorthin in the mid eighties there were extensive ice formations all the way from the portal of the Lake Level almost to the top of the Back Vein Incline. Even a few hundred feet along the entrance level there were enormous ice bosses rising two feet or more from floor level. The entrance area around rock head, where water seepage had been greatest, was almost blocked by icicle columns from floor to roof that we struggled to smash through with large blocks of waste rock - some were over a foot thick. The lake was extensively iced over and the river was a spectacular ice fall. It was a chill evening when we emerged in wet boilersuits from the round trip. I recall cutting my frozen boot laces off with a penknife that I could barely hold. No photos however, only memories.

These were taken in Odin Gorge before a trip several years ago - getting changed was horrible, as it was about minus 5 and very windy at 8am. It was toasty underground though. When we got out several hours later, it had really warmed up, and many of these had fallen and were smashed on the floor. Wouldn't like to have been under those, as some were over a metre long.
