I've been asked if AditNow can supply basic details of the mines in the area covered by North Wales Cave Rescue as part of the Regional Location Database used by the 999 agencies and contributed to by the mountain rescue teams in the area.

From time to time, we are asked to provide data. All the data on here is member contributed, and the entire ethos is non commercial sharing of information between enthusiasts. To date all requests have been met with a resounding no.

This however is a bit different, but even where it's a rescue service asking I feel duty bound to ask people.

Does anybody who has contributed mine information in the North Wales area have any problem with this being provided to NWCRO?

The information required would be mine name and location only. No descriptions or historical data.

OK, subject to a written guarantee that the information is for the sole use of the NWCRO and shall not under any circumstances be passed on to third parties.

I have no problem with information being shared with NWCRO and the local Mountain Rescue Teams. I agree with Roy on any further dissemination of any information.
I'd like to think that NWCRO and MRT's will never need to use it, but...!

Although North Wales is not my area and please xcuse me for poking my nose in but there is no way that any government official body can give a guarantee that they will not share information with others. If you agree to disseminate information in this way it must be accepted that this could and probably will, go further.
I am not suggesting that is a bad thing but just a reality check.
Secondly any information provided by Aditnow in an 'official website sort of way' would be best covered by a rider that it is just for guidance and exact mine locations cannot be guaranteed.
Sorry, is my paranioa showing or is it just the man in the raincoat outside watching every move. Oh no that's the local flasher, sorry.

since when has any CRO been an Official Government body - they are made up volunteer cavers / Mine explorers and would welcome anyone who is willing to join them and they are not clubs

It is posible that the Fire Brigade already have a list of all mines/caves in their area, similar to the industrial list.

Not sure if that info helps.

Just to clarify various comments about.

It's a regional database that will be held by N W Police and used by all the 999 agencies in the area should the need arise.

I've been asked 'cos I'm in NWCRO.

The data would go to nobody other than the local plod to help with rescues. The mountain rescue teams are contributing to it, and various caving clubs are providing the cave data.

It would be provided with the caveat that no responsibility was taken for completeness or accuracy, and would be extensively weeded to cover only those workings where a rescue might realistically be required.

I only posed the quesiton because under no ciurcumstances whatsoever would I take any liberties of any sort with any of the member contributed data on this site. I wanted to be very clear about that. The site relies on goodwill and I have never and would never abuse that.

The question really was does anybody who has contributed data in N Wales (and N Wales only) have any objections to very partial data being passed on for this purpose and this purpose only, i.e. to potentially assist with a live rescue by allowing controllers to accurately send teams out.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
