I wonder if anyone can help here.

On Floor B there was until a couple of years ago a Jim Crow (rail bender). Has anyone got a photo of it please? I realise it is a long shot (oop sorry about the pun). My friend who gets through several films in a day hasn't even got one. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It was in the "main tunnel" adjacent to the existing railway line, between B8 incline head and B31 incline head. I would guess (from memory) it was nearer B8 than B31. It disappeared 2 or 3 years ago. As you walk from B8 to B31 it was on the right within a camber where the slate was banked up slightly on the right, it was leaning against that.

Hi John, There's a strong probability it was me who left it there,we had an arse of a time with those rails, especially in the Bowydd fault,we pulled them out and replaced them with rails from between the mill and the balance incline down to the Maen office, we where orange in colour...but we had good rails .Did the jimcro you refer to have a large round 'head' where you put the crowbar in to turn,if so, 'I' not we, but 'I' carried that BARSTEWARD from deep underground in Llechwedd on one of our salvage trips, the lads said I was mad, a fool, and a bloody farmer 😉 If not, its down there somewere 😉
Have you got any blocks boy?

I cannot remember details of the "head". However it was slightly unusual. At the end of each "arm" there is usually a "C" shaped clasp that goes over the head of the rail and tucks just under the head of the rail. This is the case with all other Jim Crows I have come across (except for a special design for bending standard gauge square section point rodding). The Jim Crow on Floor B had just an "L" shape at each end. This is why I am keen to get a photo of it.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
