Hi Heb,
Its not just me that thinks they are wrong, it is some of the top lamp experts in the country also. We are compiling a list of points to look out for, which we will publish.
I am interested in how you comment that I am a "lamp expert now" how do you know I was not one before? Do you know more about all this than you are letting on?
But to assist you - look at the alloy Grays No2, the sampling tube is wrong-not feruled at the top/no insert at the bottom; the vents in the bonnet are roughly square punched in by hand and torn on three sides, the brass ones shows how these are pressed out oblong with an even semi-circular indent and only seperated on two sides; the base vessel is the wrong diameter, what you cannot see, but is there - caustic soda and urine aging inside the bonnet area. The hasp and strap are wrong. But all in all these are very good copies and will easily fool the unexpecting.
I hope you are against all dodgy items of any kind of historical artefacts, especially in mining items and that you like myself, thoroughly condemn them. If you are a dedicated enthusiast of mining history and it's artefacts, then I am willing to meet and discuss our mutual interest, But I am not interested in differences of opinion just for the sake of it.
