Hi all, not directly but vaguely related to mining, doe's anyone know if there is anyone within (reasonable) travelling distance of the Peak District who can cast me a 200 year old key in bronze or brass for my daughters 21'st?, got the original for a pattern.

Look in the yellow pages for art foundries (usually under castings) - they will be geared up to one-off small scale castings. For something as light as a key, you could do it by post to anywhere in the UK for less than the cost of the fuel of driving around.

Or thinking outside of the box, maybe you could consider cold-casting? It's just bronze-powder in an epoxy but it polishes up like proper cast bronze and has the same sort of heft to it. Not tried it myself yet but it looks like you can get good results and it would have the added bonus of being something you've made with your own hands...

Exspelio... I have been casting stuff for years... are you local to Ripley in Derbys.... I have done all sorts of stuff inc the Hogwarts Express Headboard for Warners, its just hobby founding making loco plates and bits... how quick would you want it? 🙂

how big is it?

as it happens, I have a big bunch of keys of that sort of age, ex blackett beaumont

beautiful beasts they are too, could pull one of them of the bunch perhaps.

5" long, not seen any like them anywhere before, the 'key' bit is a fat pear shape
