New book by John Barnatt on the PDNPA archaeological surveys of the Ecton mines complex will be published tomorrow
Delving ever deeper. The Ecton Mines through time
Peak District National Park Authority £21
382 pages of high quality A4 format with loads of Paul Deakin colour underground photos. Years of underground and surface surveys and archival research on the accessible 100m from river level to the top of the hill. Another 300m to the bottom of the mines but flooded since the 1880s so get your submersibles out.
Can't see it listed on the Peak park website so here is a link to someone who claims to have them

A signed complimentary copy arrived the other day to my total surprise. I then realised I'd let JB have some of my aerials of Ecton! It really is a tome on Ecton.

They'll be available through the Mining Museum at Matlock Bath, though I'm getting my copy direct from JB tomorrow evening!

I was past Ecton last week and visited the mining museum in Matlock Bath. That's a really good museum to visit - how they got that pump out of a Derbyshire mine to put as the centre piece was epic. Good for a family visit or for more serious mine explorer people.

Got my copy from JB yesterday - it's a fabulous piece of work in every department. It'll take some reading, but the density and quality of the information, illustrations and photography is stunning. Definitely raises the bar of mine documentation to a new level, IMO.
