Adam who you are in touch with by PM might have some details. If you are coming up to the area then it might be interesting for you to visit the Peak District Mining Museum at Matlock. They have an extensive bookshop failing that Mike at Moores Books might have something, link on the bottom left of Aditnow pages.

I have collected together all my links as follows
http://www.kap.toadstone.com/pdmhs/ecton/railshaft/  Underwater sequence down the rail shaft in Clayton.
http://www.kap.toadstone.com/pdmhs/ecton/aerial/  Me playing around with aerial video.

http://www.kap.toadstone.com/pdmhs/ecton/Section_map.jpg  Cross section of hill Copyright EHFSA.
http://www.kap.toadstone.com/pdmhs/ecton/ectonshaft_1.mov  Underwater sequence Deep Ecton.
http://www.kap.toadstone.com/photo/ectoncoppermine.html  My KAP site photos, tip: right click image and open in new window to get larger sized images in Firefox.
http://www.kap.toadstone.com/pdmhs/ecton/ClaytonAdit640.mov  aerial stills & video of Clayton.

All the main parts of the mines are gated and capped/fenced.
The whole hill is an SSI so keep to the foot paths where possible. The area is nevertheless very interesting and you can have a great day walking the hill.

The Ecton Field Studies Centre are active and this is their site with a link to Dave Webb's movie the "Hollow Hill'. This can be bought from the Mining Museum too I believe. If you have problems getting it mail me.

Great idea about making an ROV to use in flooded mines 🙂

How is that project coming by the way, I can think of two good mines in the Lakes to use it in - Coniston Copper Mines (Old Engine Shaft - see if the pumps could be found!) Greenside (Smith Shaft - see what's down there).......

Any other suggestions?!

@badger1711 no problem my pleasure.

@Blackcraig1 Not as fast as I would like. Usual problems, work and home life ::) We're moving next month so my Xmas/New Year schedule went out of the window. The good thing is I now have nearly all the main components. So I'll just nibble away at it. One major item fortunately came free and that is 2 lengths of CAT5 cable, over 100 meters on each reel 😉

There are plenty of sorties for the ROV, I've made a note of yours too.

This article by Trevor Ford in Mining History on the geology of Ecton Hill has surveys in it: http://www.pdmhs.com/PDFs/ScannedBulletinArticles/Bulletin%2014-4%20-%20Geology%20of%20Ecton%20and%20other%20North-East%20Staff.pdf
