I always thought LiPo was supposed to be more robust that LiIon 😢

Obviously not!

Where does LiFePo4 stand in this I wonder?

Petrol isn't especially great either, yet we seem to be quite happy hurtling around at great speeds with litres of the stuff under our bottoms in plastic containers...... I expect YouTube has plenty of footage of petrol fires too.....

& don't forget what leaking lead acid will allegedly do to your harnesses & ropes. Frankly, I'd be surprised if any of us last another day; we're clearly all doomed.

I used a LiPo (a decent sized one too, 5.7AH, 11.1v), underground, for ages. I never ended up running around, screaming "I'm on fire!".

As with anything, it's mitigating risk. It was padded, inside an ABS waterproof box. I only stopped using it as it was bulky as I had it, and I can source plenty of 18650's at sane prices now.

You're far more likely to set a 18650 off with a **** charger that doesn't know when to stop to be honest.

Protection electronics are there to prevent this, overcharge and overdischarge

Indeed, but I've encountered *many* packs that have no protection at all (Not any of Yours I hasten to add). And people will insist on using naff chargers. MY packs are "bare", but the Driver I use stops over-discharge, and my charger is a decent one (iMax B6), so cuts off at the correct point.
