I note there are no underground trips on Monday?

Its all Cwmystwyth on Monday, choices of surface walk only, surface and easy undergrounds with me, or underground SRT (skipway) with Alan and Vicky.
There may be somthing else laid on if numbers demand it, such as Cwmystwyth Taylors Level.

Sorry Roy - I misread the programme I was reading as weekend only

ALL FORESTRY TRIPS CANCELLED!

Due to the reorganisation of Forestry Commission Wales into Natural Resources Wales the issue of getting permissions had become very difficult. It is now impossible to do anything in time for NAMHO. To make matters worse I have just been informed that I have lost an SRT leader due to a personal injury.

NEW ARRANGEMENTS

Talybont is cancelled as is Ratgoed and Henfwlch.

Saturday and Sunday 'Mines of Nantymoch' will only be the afternoon trips as listed already.
I will be leading morning trips at Taylors Level at Cwmystwyth.
Waist deep wading at entrance leads to dry workings, interesting artefacts and air ducting in situ, plus an easy SRT down to inner reaches of Level Fawr.

Parking at SN809748, meet 10.30

Apologies to all affected but the above issues are beyond my control.

Well yes, I bet some people were expecting this. Cwmystwyth was only finalised a few weeks ago and if Dave Tyson hadn't turned up with an angle grinder I would have been f....d
lets be thankful for what we have.

This one is wrong place, wrong year. At least we know where we are now.

Don't worry Roy - I am sure we will still have a great time.

If it is any consolation when you get to this stage in the process it really is in the lap of the gods - remember the hog roast man dropping dead at the 2007 conference at Morwellham. (I doubt if anyone will top that). The last couple of weeks before a conference can be really stressful. I found that the minute the 2007 conference kicked off I relaxed and began to enjoy myself.

If any of you have never been underground at Cwmystwyth, there is nothing on the Forestry ground that can go anywhere near what you will see there. You can trust me on this, big time.

Beside, Ratgoed only had two people booked on the Saturday and none on the Sunday, and some of the CAT people who were leading it would have a tidy old drive to get there.

Its an ill wind?

Roy, sorry to hear the news, but thanks in advance for all your efforts. Still expect it to be a great event.

Are the Taylors Level Cwmystwyth trips on Sat and Sun morning additional trips then? If so what numbers can you take and do we have to book these through conference website?

The trips are replacements for Talybont and Henfwlch. The SRT in Taylors is really optional. Things have happened so fast today I am still figuring out my moves. But briefly, the SRT in Taylors is not far from the portal so my game plan is to take the party to explore the workings, then return so that non SRT can leave and the rest drop the pitch. So there will be something for everyone. Please note that there is a right hand branch that is definately a NO ROAD due to deadly air. (no oxygen or co2, you dont pant, you just drop)

Due to the options/nature of the trip I am not numbers fussy within reason, say 12. Bookings I am not sure of as I regard all those who already booked Talybont and Henfwlch to have priority.

The daft thing about Henfwlch is that its open access, not very wet, no SRT, and basically no risk unless you fall down the winze in there, and yet we definately cannot do without permission.

I rather expect that some rascals will go ahead anyway, as long as they dont tell me about it...
😉

I might be able to sneak an extra one in courtesy of a local farmer, I will post on [expected] bulletin board at the Uny

Possibly be Monday early evening or similar

EDIT
Thank God for Cwmystwyth.

That's bonkers, that's one of the most interesting & enjoyable trips in the mid-Wales/Corris region.

No argument here, but that is what I have been told by the conference organisers.

Its odd how bookings go. In 2007 we put on Wheal Crowndale which is a cracking trip and got no takers.
