Any SRT involved here?

Also is there access to the lead mine? If so is any rigging needed?

The slate mine is open and you don't need SRT ... except - there is a high passage as you enter on your left which takes you to the top of a chamber. It isn't bolted and it is probably a chamber you can get in anyway (I couldn't find the connection)

The lead mine is also open and has entrances (bizzarely) on both sides of the slate incline. It's a bit awkward but you can manage it.

Oh, the slate mine entrance isn't the obvious hole you can see on the hillside from a distance - it is to the left as you look at it.

Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜‰

Take a look in the User Album for Zimmer's photos:

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Craig-Rhiwarth-Slate-Mine-2-User-Album/

There is an access to some upper workings, then entrance is less than pleasant though and I decided that cowardice was the better part of discretion... From zimmer's photo's it look like there are a wagons in there and a couple of SRT/ladder pitches.

Oooooooooh that's interesting ....

The entrance I went in was a simple "walk in" - I didn't see this "hole" in the photo. Perhaps it leads to the chamber that the high passage leads to ?

Possible! It's a goppingly awful way in! Hence I chickened out! In my photo above the chap is just about to chicken out as well :)

You climb down and then there's a flat-out crawl. Under a hanging quarter-tonne slab. With a guillotine edge

This is in the top left corner of the pit higher up the mountain side than the walk-in adit.

Somewhere to the left of this photo of zimmer's:

There seems to be track and a nice slab wagon in there - zimmer's photo again:

Nah - it's not too bad at all. Or is is because I'm a c*v*r as much as a MineExer? There should be no need to take a brave pill.

Have fun, don't get lost there's plenty to explore in there. I was impressed when MattC & I visited earlier this year.

I shall have to man up next time I go there

Glad to hear its not as bad as it looks (or as bad as I thought it looked). From the photos there are interesting things to see beyond the crawls

Bit far for a Thursday Night. The road between Bala and Llangynog is currently partially closed over the top, think there's a convoy system in place. Due to fully open again in a couple of weeks time.
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

You will need a ladder or rope to get down the slope after the 2 squeezes if going in the same way as zimmer it then all opens up inside the wagon with slate on is at the far end of the mine were the entrance once was.hope this helps ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
