I had an email while I was away telling me that the photos in this album http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Craig-Rhiwarth-Lead-Mine-Archive-Album/  are Craig Rhiwarth Slate Quarry.

However the chap didn't give me any location details for the slate mine, and didn't reply when I asked.

I have SJ053263 for Craig Rhiwarth lead mine which I'm told is the other side of the hill. Does anybody know if this is correct? And does anybody know the gridref for the slate mine?

If I can get that information some how I can set up a record for the slate mine and move the photos over.

Alun Richards gives SJ053263 for this quarry. The 1:25,000 map shows the inclines near that so it looks as if your grid reference is correct.

Thanks Dave. In which case the grid ref against the lead mine is correct for the slate quarry but not the lead mine...

Do you happen to know the gridref of the lead mine? :flowers:

At Craig Rhiwarth there is the Slate Quarry at the top of the hill, below it is the lead mine (also known as Ochrycraig or North Llangynog) (SJ 053 265).

The other side of the hill is Cwm Orog Lead Mine (SJ 052 274).

The confusion is understandable as the Slate workings overlay the metal mine with some of the stoping coming to surface near the lower end of the incline. The main level was for the metal mine is near Ty'n Twll (I think that names a bit of a giveaway 😉 ) and is run in.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I've corrected the entries and moved the photos around now.
