I have quite a problem with conspiracy theories. By this I mean major ones, the minor ones are just so blatantly obvious but dare not name them, most of us will know anyway.

So, major conspiracies.
They do of course depend on secrecy, and considering that the worlds most powerful nation could not even cover up the sexual indiscretions of its own president at that time, its a non starter.

Burlington was 'hidden' from general knowledge for decades, so it is quite possible to have secrets.

conspiracy theories are generally the defence of the ignorant, but hey its your right I suppose.

General knowledge yes, but only because of the lack of general interest. Its only people like us who get excited about that kind of thing.
Now stick a couple of alien spacecraft down there.................

However another battle was looming, this attack was from electricity and now with the advantage of many years we can see this battle quite plainly. With oil reserves depleting and costs rising electricity producers amalgamated to attack oil to try to take its place as the worlds dominant fuel.

Electricity is not a fuel.

Try telling that to those with electric cars?

I credit people who own electric cars with the intelligence to understand the difference between fuel and the electricity produced by converting any fuel into energy. Perhaps you don't?

Then maybe you don't understand the meaning of the term fuel.

Fuel is a material...Electricity is not.

If you read a dictionary it will tell you:

fuel

1) Material for burning for fire or heat.
2) Source of power.
3) Source of Energy
4) Source or form of energy for creating another form of energy or motion.

If you look at electricity it is defined as both a source of energy and a fuel.

Electricity is a source of energy but it's not a fuel, a wound up rubber band is a source of energy and that's not a fuel either, electricity is a power otherwise Georg Ohm got it wrong and man would not have landed on the moon.

Would anyone like to invest in my electricty mine?

Simon - I have a chemical engineering degree, admittedly a long time ago, but - PLEASE!!! In fact, this is basic schoolboy stuff, never mind Uni!

Oxford dictionary:

Fuel
material such as coal, gas, or oil that is burned to produce heat or power

Electricity
a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particles (such as electrons or protons), either statically as an accumulation of charge or dynamically as a current.

OK

Electricity from solar panels - fuel? Hydrogen etc - nuclear fusion in the Sun

Electricity from wind - fuel? as above, solar energy causes wind and weather

Electricity from hydro schemes - fuel? As above, solar radiation causes evaporation/precipitation/rivers etc

Electricity from batteries - fuel? Chemicals in the batteries

Electricity from fossil fuel power stations - fuel? combustible hydrocarbons or coal

Electricity from nuclear power station - fuel? fissile materials refined from minerals extracted from the ground.

Electricity in your petrol/diesel car - fuel? Petrol or diesel.

Simple really. ::)

The fuel is what is CONSUMED or CONVERTED from one state to another in order to create controllable energy, which is then usually used to turn an induction device (the alternator in your car for example) to create electrical current. In the case of the solar panels, hydro, or wind systems, the fuel happens to be consumed 93 million miles away.

Is this off topic?

:offtopic:

I am not sure - however, someone's credibility might be at stake here .......... 😉

Not mine I hope..

I agree Peter,

trouble is these days it's duel fuel bills for gas and electric, cars fueled by electricity etc the term is being used very loosely and lazily.

Electricity is electricity and is defined by SI units in electrical terms, there is so far as I am aware no parallel definition for fuel in the context of electrical constants.

So for the rest of this thread lets call fuel fuel and electricity as electricity so we all know what's what.

Statements like:

Quote:

... electricity producers amalgamated to attack oil to try to take its place as the worlds dominant fuel...

... are meaningless which is why I picked up on it. Conspiracy theory has been mentioned too. Well, conspiracy theories are all very well, but when they make no sense, what's the point in taking the debate any further?

What fuel are these "electricity producers" using? Not oil obviously.

In this country hardly any oil is used to produce electricity at the moment in the grand scheme of electricity generation (vehicle alternators excluded)
