Just received a message from Anquet Maps about a dramatic price reduction from Ordnance Survey. They have reduced the price of at least one of their full Great Britain maps from £3400 to £280.

IF O.S. have reduced prices across the board then all suppliers prices should be changing in our favour.

This is Anquet's announcement:-

You could well be right. At this stage its not very obvious what change O.S. have made. It would be really nice if its a simple across the board reduction of their licence fees as that should reduce prices across the board including sources of Old Maps. BUT I suspect it may only apply to the bits that are getting severe competition from the likes of Google et al. Still its worth keeping an eye on the prices of your favourite supplier.

At about £8 the paper maps are barely expensive, particularly given that they are probably the best product of their kind in the world.

Google maps might be free but they're awful. Complete & utter sh1te at best.

With a bit of care you'll get at least a couple years hard use out of a map. For the same money you'll struggle to get a couple post-walk pints & a bag of scratchings.

I agree about Google maps being sh1t! I tend to use (and print off even if I have the map of the area) Streetmaps.co.uk, even more useful now they show 1:25,000 too. A tad under £8.00 is good value.

Slight change of subject but this is a good site for older maps:
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/

Select Great Britain in the 'choose map series' drop down then 1:25000 1937-1961 in the drop down below.

Other series on the site are also worth a gander.

Try turning that[i] over in the car! The double sided 1:25,000 are bad enough! 😉
