I see the album is just headed Balls Green, I wonder if the crane is in Upper Balls Green? The Wagon is in question being in lower Balls Green?

I'm pretty sure there was no crane in Lower Balls Green in 2010.

Having just checked the darkplaces wiki, that seems to be the case. The crane is in (Upper) Balls Green; the tub in Lower Balls Green.

Sorry if I come over naive and uneducated in these matters, but what is the difference between this tub and the "Jubilees" we used to use? ( a picture comparison would be nice).

Also, does anyone know the date of the crane pictured, it appears to be in remarkably fine condition.

Only that it was uploaded onto this site on 2/8/2010 and that the crane is / was in the upper Balls Green mine

I would really like to know if the crane is still there
in the picture (i borrowed from this site ) you can see the destroyed crane behind the complete one
My point was that all the photos taken by the "party of twelve"
this year , not one picture of what should have been the most interesting artifact The crane . which suggests to me it's no longer there

As of this morning the crane is still there.

Just for the record there was another individual involved with this (Name Withheld) associated with Moseley Railway Trust.

They DID NOT have permission to vandalise and remove parts of the truck.

The truck was in no immediate danger of being lost so others could not see it.

I'm sure they wouldn't bat an eyelid if a bunch of people turned up at Apedale Valley Light Railway and started to cut bits out of their loco's. Or would they?

Be careful where you take these two individuals or what you show them in future, things could just 'disappear'...?

It makes one wonder how much of their other preserved loco's, trucks etc are actually comprising of stolen property?

Will MRT question where the parts came from??

That is really disappointing - MRT have, over years, done a phenomenal job in preserving and restoring our industrial narrow gauge heritage.

I note that their website, the pages relating to Ruston locos have worksplates illustrated from locos that were or are at Maen Offeren, namely 177638 and 175127. They do not appear to be taken whilst still on the locos!

As I started this thread I thought I'd leave an update -

The efforts of a few individuals got the NAMHO Conservation Officer, Welsh Mines Preservation Trust and the local caving club Gloucester Speleological Society (GSS) involved.
Letters of complaint / disgust were sent to the Moseley Railway Trust (MRT) from the above organisations.

A letter of apology to the GSS was received from MRT and the parts that were removed were bolted back on to the tipper. It's not 'as good as new' but better than nothing.

A note from the individuals who removed the parts has also been left with the tipper explaining their motives and regret at the way they went about things. It also states that they have made a £500 donation to the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation charity.

If anyone would like to see a copy of this note please PM me.

Hopefully lessons were learned by those in the railway enthusiast community?

(The reason why WMPT got involved - although the quarry is not in Wales the individuals traveled 100 odd miles to get to this site from their base at Moseley, the same distance would cover most of Wales and therefore WMPT felt justified in registering their concerns as well.)

The daft part is that Moseley Railway Trust have their railway at Apedale Colliery museum where such things as mine artifacts are preserved...........
