How can I find out if my father worked at featherstone mine in 1924 and his father both named Henry Jukes and lived at Hartley Street

I guess in an ideal world wages books etc from the colliery may still exist in archive or more obliquely you may be able to confirm their employment by checking rental records for their home etc

For a strater you might try contacting:

1. West Yorkshire Archives Service and see if they hold wages books etc for this period [http://catalogue.wyjs.org.uk/] for Featherstone/Ackton Hall collieries see for example:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=205-1094&cid=0&kw=featherstone  colliery#0

https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/libraries/archives-and-local-studies.html  ] for similar, see for example:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=199-ncb1280&cid=15-5-47&kw=featherstone  colliery#15-5-47

3. Contacting John Goodchild at Wakefield Libraries and see if he has anything in his magnificent archive:

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
