Looking at the proposed scheme they could get about 100/120 Kw out but could also throttle back to a lower output if they wanted to run continually in times of limited water supply.

Sure the 'feed in' tariff will be favourable. 😉

I have been away until last night and was unable to monitor and make timely replies to this thread.

Bolting, yes, any work needs approval. However if health and safety issues require immediate remedial action this is permissible, within reason. I have recently done some bolting as an action I considered necessary due to heath and safety grounds relative to corrosion of pre existing spit anchors and apparent explorers habits of belaying to timber.

The hydro Scheme. The trust has yet to have sight off and approve the final plans but we are led to understand that water will be gathered by a catchment which will not require the reinstatement of any dams etc. Barratts as I have said have yet to finalise and prepare their plans, the pdf is my ideas of a scheme which the trust would find acceptable.
There is something of interest there as I have attempted an interpretation of the mine compressor arrangement. It was relatively straightforward to determine the position of the twin compressors and Pelton turbine, however the remaining incline winder and mill drive arrangement is somewhat conjectural, so I left that out.

Cwmystwyth Mines

Hi Folks
I have prepared a plan of action relative to the recently acquired Cwmystwyth Mines, this is available for download both from this website and the trusts own website at www.cambrianmines.co.uk. (Go to the Cwmystwyth page)
In order to make future funding bids my consultation paper or wish list needs to be used at a platform for a proper deailed plan with costing etc, this work need also be put out to consultants who can make a proper job of it. The mere prospect of having to apply myself to this frightened me!
A possible source of funding to the sum of £5K has been identified and we are in the processes of attempting to secure this. It will be helpful to the trust if people who support this work at Cwmystwyth can write letters of support endorsing the initiative to Mr Peter Austin, the Development Officer of Ceredigion County Council.

This really needs to be done before the end of the week.

I have just updated the history of Cwmystwyth Mines on our CMT website and also the on here. My account of early mining was a trite inaccurate, plus a few corrected typos etc.
Webmasters who have used this for their own sites may wish to update, feel free.

Some good news leading up to the festive season. The funding to take forward the development of the Protection and Management Plan for Cwmystwyth (based on my consultation paper available to download) is now in place and we have appointed the Dyfed Archaeological Trust (DAT) as consultants to lead on this project.

The plan is an essential platform in bidding for further funding to take forward my grandiose plans. There is no way I could have prepared an accurate and detailed plan with costings etc on my own or even with the help of my fellow directors.

I am very encouraged by the support I am getting from all quarters.

I am aware of this, but its catching them. I was working UG in Goginan labouring in confined conditions and had enough of it about lunch time and thought it would be nice to take a look at Cwmystwyth and then have a nice drive and walk around the Elan Valley. It was.

I saw a convoy of quad bikes on the road, thay had helmet cams and if they are the culprits may upload footage of their rampage onto some website. If I can get to see it I think it would constitute some convincing evidence.

Hidden wildlife cams might be worth considering.

This type of incident is fortunately very infrequent, I believe the last incident was about 5 years ago. I also hope that once our gateway signage, designated parking, and improvements to the mill area are in place it will act as discouragement.

I have to wear two hats now.

I wasn't one of the CAL negotiators at all. It was all started by the late Elsie Little and then Stuart France took over after her unfortunate demise.
I got involved when the success of CMT was perceived as an ideal model for moving things forward, the necessity for someone on the board to represent the mining community was a further consideration. Stuart is a caver, I am an ME and Dave has a foot in both camps, so things are well balanced.

Please don't credit me with other peoples efforts as it makes me feel dishonorable.

Cwmystwyth Hydro Latest

Following a meeting with Barratt Associates on Sunday last it has been confirmed that connection issues with Scottish Power have been resolved.

Also a new pipeline route has been agreed to the left of the mill looking up. This will replicate the original pipleline down to the old compressor house and then the original pipeline from compressor house down to the mill which fed a Gilkes Vortex Turbine. From this point it will go below ground to a rebuilt concentrates store which will house the turbine and generator installation.
This will enable a straight run of feed pipe thus increasing efficiency.

This new route will exclude the work on the west bank of Nant Trevach which was to be made up into a visitor footpath to cover the buried pipeline, however this can easily be done at a later date as part of an integrated project with NRW to stabilise the spoil tips against erosion.
The hydro scheme itself will help reduce pollution by reducing run off.
