Just finished! But which mine was it? I thought I recognised the Silver Valley sett near Harrowbarrow, but I could be- and probably am - wrong.

Watching it on +1.

They're bloody mad... I'd want a decent lottery win behind me to attempt that!

Though I would have found that shaft. The missus thought I was joking when I said it would need a grill on it so I could go play.
Searching for the ever elusive Underground Titty Bar.

About time... Been following situation on this pair for a decade or more... The enclosed winder was very in need of tlc and the pump looked well and was quite solid prior to restoration, just overgrown. Last time was there I met the owner I think who told me his plans... I took pics when it was part done which I will look for when home. It's a nice conversion preferable to the other option... Such as Whl Martha - Broadgate, but then we do have too many engine houses don't we (sarcasm)! Cannot see program where I am but if it is Langford then brilliant!

Is that the same Broadgate engine house which was advertised with virtually no land, an uncapped shaft and a recently demolished-by-lightening chimney stack for just short of £300k?

They had been smoking crack IMO.

Was repeated last night on Channel 4, so watched it.
I was surprised they didn't find evidence of the shaft either (maybe it was choked / collapsed ), but any extra surveying involving test drilling would have been an additional expense.
It wasn't fully explained why existing slots / holes in the wall could not be used for beam supports, but guess they wanted floors at different heights to the original.
What they didn't say is that if you do this, expect the occasional knock on the door from passing persons interested in mining. I wonder where they got the old plans from ? They look interesting.

I met the previous buyer/owner in late 90s and he said filled to the brim.... I can never remember seeing any trace of the shaft at surface not even a definative hollow.... Will look out the older pics I have, I may have taken some of the shaft area on a sneaky look around in the 90s. But even if filled thats no guarantee it won't run again... !!!!

It was a fair old engine, which would suggest it had a fair old engine shaft. It would have probably taken a nadge more than the tip being pushed into it.

My bet would be that it was sollared in solid rock and backfilled. Off the top of my head, there was either no adit, or it was almost at surface. Either way, the rock is so shocking in the area that the adit has probably caved and thus a fair chance the sollars are well preserved in water and will last a while yet.

Having looked up at some exceedingly dodgy shaft caps which inspire one to tie off to a tree when walking around any mine site, I'd say "We couldn't find the shaft" is a dangerous place to leave things!

I imagine that solid rock probably starts a fair way down in the area as the killas is pretty rotten and horrible, from what I recall. I wonder if it could be a choke backfilled to surface.

Either way, it's a lovely conversion and I'd like to see a lot more "saved" in this manner, particularly North Treskerby.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
