Made a visit to this mine yesterday. Forrestry have erected some new defences!
It is a small interesting mine the operation dates from the early nineteenth century and closed down around 1926.
In the early 70's the Ennex Corperation carried out an extensive examination of the whole area looking for Gold!
They put a winch on the large open stope and took away samples.
Yesterday's trip was to see if we could access this stope from underground.
Two levels are obviously open, the bottom is McDougall's level and I hope to upload some photos frm it.
The next is called Stamp level and just before some hoppers which are in excellent condition, a ladder way is encountered.
On a previous visit, in the stope at the top, a complete explosive box was seen.
I have to report that it is no longer there obviously it has been removed by someone!
There have been suggestions that if the gold mine gets the O.K. Then a small mining museum might be opened I always thought that this box would make an excellent exhibit but I guess not - it would appear to have gone the same way as the Brownley Hill high flat tipping wagon!
A great shame!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
