Wakefield Firm Gordon Harrison Ltd has submitted a Planning Application to Kirklees Council for permission to open cast mine land off Litherop Lane by the above colliery.
They hope to extract 200,000 tonnes of coal and 100,00 tonnes of clay over 2.5 years.
Depending on the quality of the coal, it will go to either Kellingley Colliery near Knottingley for blending or stright to Drax Power Station.
I will have to keep my eye on this

Interesting. Three previous applications for opencasting in the immediate area have been refused. Somebody must be convinced here's coal worth getting there. And the council seem determined not to allow it.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
