Agreed, but a milepost has an odd set of proportions, I would have thought.

The gatepost theft issue has an interesting pedigree, for a number of Dartmoor's standing stones were removed for exactly this purpose in the 1600s to 1800s for sure. Nothing new under the sun, to coin a phrase...

Nothing has come out on the Milepost and I have kept an eye on Fleabay and at auction etc... nobody has seen anything thus far in tramway circles either.

interestingly we just had 2 Little Eaton and Denby Gangway boundry stones vanish as all they are is a round toppede post with no writing!

You are lucky. Round where I live stone and blue roof slates are stolen, stone flags. walls and semicircular wall capings. Near the West Yorks mining museum there is a long stretch of wall capings been stolen.
Railway enthusiasts are removing old signs for their garden layouts. Must speak to my brother in law about this to leave the Swanage Branch line signs alone and put the others back

I sincerely hope so, Iclock, I really do.

There's a Midland Railway Bridge Number 197 for sale on Ebay at present: I wonder where that came from?

Well, you've instantly added value to it, as I bet the seller hasn't a clue. The best I could manage was a BR 21t coal hopper wagon plate, bought at the SVR, principally because it was made at Shildon, where I had the privilege of seeing the vehicles constructed. The drop forge was a wonder to behold (and hear). Anyhow, thread drift... let's get a few of these mining and transport artefacts back to their rightful places.
